Polina Sandström
Founder, Architect SAR/MSA
ASKA is an architectural firm founded in 2020 and based in Stockholm, Sweden. It is run by architect Polina Sandström, who was educated at KTH, Stockholm and Parsons, New York.
Time will pass. Styles, design expressions and epochs will die. But the essential architectural qualities, the residue - aska, will always remain. A material to extract in order to model, form and shape into something new. A constant dialog that stretches between the raw, eternal architectural elements and the edge of our modern society. ASKA aims to look beyond the mainstream, pale design expressions of today – or as Swedes would say - the mellanmjölk architecture. Instead we focus on an architectural language that has a genuine impact on the user by creating a strong physical and phenomenological experience.
We work with clients and collaborators that too are seekers. Brave, progressive and quality minded people that believe architecture is more than just an expression. Together we create things, places & impressions that will last. Our method is to address each project in a highly individual way, uncovering the essential and unique qualities, the aska, of every site, space and brand, unafraid of applying solutions that do not yet exist. We believe architecture is not limited to size, our practice therefore spans within all fields and scales. Regardless of it being a vase, a flagship store or a garden, essential architectural components can always be found, and brought to the surface.
